McCormick & Schmick’s to Host
Big Island of Hawaii Benefit

Survivor/Adventure Chef Keith Famie to headline
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Fundraiser

(TROY, Mich.) Sept. 9, 2003 – McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant of Troy will host a Big Island of Hawaii benefit featuring Survivor 2 contestant Keith Famie, on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The event will help support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The Big Island of Hawaii dinner will feature ingredients from the Hawaiian Islands including Kona coffee, macadamia nuts, pineapple, coconuts, papaya and a variety of McCormick & Schmick’s fresh seafood. Famie, host of “Keith Famie’s Adventures” on the Food Network, collaborating with McCormick & Schmick’s Executive Chef Gary Mui, promise a delicious four-course dinner that will dazzle by sight and taste.

“We are excited to participate in this important fundraising event,” said Sharon Bartlett, General Manager of McCormick & Schmick’s. “Our staff is committed to supporting Keith in his mission to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.”

The Big Island of Hawaii benefit will take place just two weeks before Famie leaves to compete in the IRONMAN ® in Hawaii on Oct. 18. Famie also is raising funds as he completes the world-famous challenge, swimming 2.4 miles, then biking 112 miles through the lava fields and finally running a full marathon which is 26.2 miles. Famie earned a spot in the IRONMAN through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program, the world’s largest endurance training program and the society’s premier fundraising effort.

Famie’s involvement in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society began after meeting Adam Rose of Macomb Township, a 10-year-old boy confined to a wheelchair after extensive chemotherapy to battle leukemia.

With the support and coaching from three time IRONMAN participant and close friend Ed Whitney a well known commercial kitchen designer, Famie has been on the road to IRONMAN since June.

“The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society does amazing things for people battling terrible diseases,” said Famie. “I’m just trying to do my part. My goal is to raise $100,000 through charity events like this benefit dinner at McCormick & Schmick’s and my participation in the IRONMAN.”

The festive Hawaiian feast will begin a 6 p.m. with cocktails and island-themed hors d’ oeuvres. The cost is $125 per person. Reservations can be made by calling McCormick & Schmick’s at (248) 637-6400. Keith Fame’s latest book, You Really Haven’t Been There Until You’ve Eaten the Food, (Clarkston Potter/Publisher, 2003) will also be on sale with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
