It was a long day. We got up at 3:45am on Saturday and did not get to bed until 1:45am Sunday, a 22 hour day. Adam was a real trooper. I was worried he would not stay awake all day and night. But he was so excited for Keith that staying up was never a problem.

Keith Famie is awesome. He is also now an IRONMAN!

The conditions were both good and bad. Good in the morning because there was little wind and the surf was almost non-existent, making for a fast swim. Bad because the afternoon sun beat down mercilessly on the lava fields along the bike course, making it a HOT ride. Then the winds filled in strongly from the wrong direction. The fierce head-wind on the ride back to Kona made even the downhill stretches tough! The marathon in the late afternoon through evening had better conditions. The wind died down and temperatures cooled off when the sun went down. But by then many, if not most, of the athletes were spent. All in all, it was a tough day. No records were broken in this IRONMAN!

We met many wonderful people in our 4 day stay on the Big Island. It was a fantastic trip. Words can't describe how great this experience was. Keith topped it all off by pushing Adam across the finish line with thousands of people cheering them on. And remember this was at 11:30pm after a 7am start! It was a moment we will all never forget! There is nothing like an IRONMAN finish, for fans and athletes alike! Hope you get some sense of the excitement of the whole day through my photos.
